Hi folks!
Your friendly Julia GSoC Co-Admin here! Wanted to share my own update about this year’s GSoC Mentor Summit. This year, @avik, @mortenpi, and I went to Google HQ in Mountain View to meet other GSoC project admins and maintainers. It was an absolutely great experience!
We were able to meet a ton of awesome folks from various organizations (geeked out with some of my personal open source heroes, Jan Flowers from OpenMRS and Alya Abbott from Zulip), I led a talk about research software engineering that was attended by 20 - 30 folks, and even did an informal hackathon on the new small binary feature added into Julia! Overall, it was a fantastic experience and I know that @avik and I are thinking about ways we can turn our experiences from the Summit into action for the greater community!
As this year’s GSoC is wrapping up, I wanted to give a quick advertisement that @avik and I are still looking for volunteers to help with GSoC admin next year! If you love volunteering, are looking for low-tech ways to help around the Julia community, or want to give back within STEM, this can be a great low time commitment but high impact role! Feel free to reach out to @avik and I about volunteering
Cheers!
