Do you use the latest version of Julia and why?

What type are you?

  1. I can’t risk breaking my project so LTS version it is.
  2. I’m too lazy to update and will work with whatever version happened to be installed on my computer.
  3. I’m eager to update and will get the latest stable version.
  4. I’m VERY EAGER to update and use the latest version whenever possible.
  5. I’m EXTREMELY EAGER about new updates and update to the newest version everyday!

I do not completely see the differences between 3-5, so I update whenever juliaup says there is a new version – is that 3 or 4? It is not everyday since I wait for juliaup to tell me.

Why do I do that? Well in my experience new versions tend to be faster while at the same time they did not yet break my existing code yet. Neither for packages I use not for those I develop; but I also only rarely depend in some internals.

For example with 1.9 when extensions came along, I was eager to try them in my own packages and love how they improved decoupling the packages and enhance speed at the same time.

Yes I use the latest packaged versions (including pre-releases).

Also, you should have made this a poll.
