Where are Julia packages installed?

I occasionally find myself wondering where packages are installed and fail to easily find the answer, so I’m putting it here.

~/.julia/packages

At least for me it’s in ~/.julia/packages, not package

I’ve just checked I’m definitely packages, I’m on a Mac if that makes a difference. I hope there isn’t too much variation otherwise this may not be able to help too many people.

That’s what I said - it should be packages for everyone, but your accepted solution says package
