What is the purpose of having both "nodes" and "vertices" in the package OpenStreetMapX?

Hi. I hope this is not a naive question. I’m working on the OpenStreetMapX package lately and I do not quite understand the purpose of having both “nodes” and “vertices” in the package. Is it necessary? Any comments are greatly appreciated.
