Senior Software Engineer, 3D Geological Modeling

Hi everyone! I wanted to give this community a heads up that my company (Terra AI, https://terraai.com/) will be looking to hire for a position in the next few weeks!

Position: Senior Software Engineer, 3D Geological Modeling
Type: 2-3 Month Contract (strong potential for full-time)
Location: Redwood City, CA (Remote/on-site/hybrid)

We are an AI mineral exploration and carbon sequestration startup in Redwood City seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own and productionize our core 3D geological modeling tool, which is written in Julia. You will be the first dedicated engineer for this library, reporting to the CTO and working on challenging problems in computational geometry and procedural geologic modeling. Ideal candidates have strong experience in Julia and a background in computational geometry, scientific computing, and/or computational graphics. If you’re interested in shaping a powerful tool from the ground up, please reach out to me (William Davis) at william.davis@terraai.earth (please attach a resume)

Instead of building yet another proprietary library for 3D geologic modeling, TerraAI could sponsor the development of opensource Julia libraries that have the exact same industrial applications.

I am sure you are aware of GeoStats.jl. If you are trying to replicate an entire stack (Meshes.jl, CoordRefSystems.jl, GeoStatsProcesses.jl, …) I can anticipate at least 10 years of work. Not to mention the waste of human resources that is already a challenge when it comes to Julia.

The question is: do you really need to go proprietary in a community that small? If you are open to discuss collaborations, please reach out. Arpeggeo has advanced 3D geologic modeling expertise that is really hard to find. We are always open to improve the GeoStats.jl ecosystem to meet the needs of our collaborators.
