Random warning messages with Catalyst

I keep getting, sort of randomly, these warning messages when using Catalyst. I have erased and reinstalled all my Julia packages and the error persisted. Any idea what can it be?

@devmotion those StatsFuns.jl changes are wrecking the package resolver. Can we get a patch that makes the resolver what to hit the right version? The solution right now is to ]add StatsFuns@0.9.3

That doesn’t seem possible if you need to keep CUDA 3.3. Are there any other solutions? (kind of at a loss with this one since so many packages seem to be involved and I have no idea what’s going on…)

Maybe this PR? Reading it, it sounds like the package is in messy territory and needs a day or so to fix it up.

I pushed a fix in https://github.com/JuliaStats/StatsFuns.jl/pull/122.

This mess seems to be caused by the latest version of SpecialFunctions which is compatible with LogExpFunctions 0.3. Depending on the Pkg resolver, LogExpFunctions 0.3 and its dependency IrrationalConstants are pulled in and StatsFuns is downgraded (the latest version of StatsFuns is not compatible with LogExpFunctions 0.3). However, StatsFuns also defines some of the constants that are now part of IrrationalConstants. The workaround is to enforce the latest version of StatsFuns with ] add StatsFuns@0.9.8 and hence force a downgrade of LogExpFunctions to 0.2. With the PR above, these issues should be resolved - the constants are removed from StatsFuns and it will be compatible with LogExpFunctions 0.3 and IrrationalConstants.

Can’t IrrationalConstant just check if the constants are already defined and in that case not redefine them?

Edit: Nope, it’s the other way around, it is StatsFuns that does the overwriting.

But anyway, the Base.@irrational macro is not really meant to be used for external packages. It immidiately does type piracy so it cannot be used safely (and causes issues like this).

Julia 1.6.3

The recommended workaround to install StatsFuns@0.9.3 did not fix this for me. I’ll need a bit more time to see if my module works anyway. I don’t explicitly use StatsFuns but I do use Statistics from base, which may bring in StatsFuns.

This shouldn’t be a problem anymore; it sounds like you may have some out of date package installed that is preventing the relevant packages from updating. Have you tried adding Catalyst in a clean environment?

Confused.

I don’t install or use Catalyst unless it is something pulled in by another package.

What package is causing this error for you when you using it? Try adding that package to a new blank environment as I suggested and see if they go away.

I think I had to force all the packages I was using to be pre-compiled. Now it has stopped.

It was a conflict between StatsFuns and the constants packages. I use StatsPlots and StatsFuns might be brought in by that.
