New OERs for julia courses

I am happy to share some open educational resources (OER).

As part of a introductional julia course I am giving, we produced videos about setting up VSCode + julia and about the git workflow of contributing to a julia package. These are available in german and english.

We also prepared a cheatsheet in your favorite julia color and created a Carpentries incubator lesson.

These materials are collected on twillo. I hope you can find a use for those

In addition to the aforementioned Carpentries incubator lesson there also exists now a julia version of the lessons using inflammation data.

Any feedback on either of those is very welcome !

Thanks for these resources!

Just a few comments on the cheatsheets on twillo:

  • for slurping and splatting, you should write (args...) instead of (args,...) (there is an extra comma).
  • your Unicode character looks like a \delta rather than a \partial.
  • the description of apropos has a rendition error.
  • I would use the monospace font for the code (left column) and keep the serial font for the description (right column) rather than the inverse.
  • isa(name, TypeName) is more commonly written name isa TypeName.
  • 5Γ·2 is mistakenly written as 5Ε“2.
  • FunctionName should be in lowercase.
  • Arg1 should be in lowercase.

I hope it can be of help!

The link https://luh-computationalbiology.github.io/julia-inflammation/ at the GitHub repo for the inflammation example results in a 404 error.

Yeah, its moved now to the carpentries incubator, so the url is Programming with Julia: Summary and Setup

However, I don’t yet have the rights to change the description, will change eventually.
