We’ve built up a small surplus from past few JuliaCons, and want to therefore open up a small development grant program for the Julia ecosystem with that money.
We intend to fund a few projects across the Julia ecosystem (including the compiler, standard libraries, and packages), up to a max of USD 10,000 per project. We have a total budget of around USD 40,000 for this round.
We will bias towards existing maintainers and Julia developers for this round. The idea is to fund existing Julia developers who do not currently have existing corporate sponsorship. If you plan on contributing to a package where you are not yet a committer, please have a committer on that project vouch for you – we’re looking for confidence that this work will be reviewed and merged. AI usage for work under this grant is OK, but should conform to the Julia community AI guidelines.
We will start reviewing proposals from November 3rd, and then on a rolling basis, until budget runs out.
These proposals will be reviewed by Avik Sengupta, Raye Kimmerer and Valentin Churavy. For questions, please reach out to me here, or on the Julialang Slack or Zulip.
Payments will be made via NumFOCUS, our fiscal sponsor, and will require signing a contractor agreement with NF.
Please fill this form out if you want to be considered for this grant: Julia Small Developer Grants Application, 2026
