I am new to Julia but I believe the best way to learn a new language is to use it to solve problems as much as possible. I use resources like ThinkJulia and lectures on Quantitative Economics with Julia.
Could someone help me to find some Julia projects I can contritbute to?
My interests are scientific-computing and machine-learning.

imho: improving documentation, adding new test cases … is a “good first issue”
check any julia projects … and see …
or
there are some tasks from the last year Hactoberfest
There are lot of Packages , and lot of issues - waiting for new contributors! 
You can check the packages announcements, and try to find some new interesting projects.
IMHO: Every new Julia projects need a “First Follower”
You should contribute to something which you also use or need yourself. That’s the easiest way to get started since the motivation is for free and the outcome and gain somewhat predictable
