Is a digital tablet useful for videoconferences?

Little bit late to the party, but I use a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga with Xournal++ under Linux since years.

It Works flawless and allows me to quickly share my screen in an online session to draw something.

My next laptop will be the same one again since it’s very convenient to have a digital drawing device included. Also for annotating pdfs, it’s very nice.

At the end I’ve found the tablet it has been useful for me.
I bought a 12" Huion Kamvas because it has good accuracy and allows me to change the width of the lines by pressing more.

But you must decide if you want a small tablet like this one (you don’t need a large support table but it’s less usable) or a large one.
I can only afford a cheap model, and it has some drawbacks:

  • you can only use it if connected to the computer.
  • you need many cables to connect it. A simple usb connection doesn’t work on any computer I’ve tried.
  • it doesn’t have bluetooth nor wifi.
  • you need to install special software on the computer and have it permanently running. This could be a problem if using the company’s laptop and don’t have admin rights.
  • there is a lot of lag.

Better alternatives are much more expensive.
If you don’t need the multi-level pressure you can use a simpler model.
