I would like to bring your attention to Halite II competition being held by TwoSigma: https://halite.io/
From the site:
“Halite is an open source artificial intelligence programming challenge, created by Two Sigma, where players build bots using the coding language of their choice to battle on a two-dimensional virtual board.”
Yesterday Starter Kit for Julia has been added to repository: https://github.com/HaliteChallenge/Halite-II/tree/master/airesources/Julia so anyone interested can join.
Personally, I think that while interesting in itself, this competition is one of places that is good for Julia itself. Firstly, Julia can have additional PR because this competition concentrate lots of people, secondly, it can show its strength as fast and advanced language. In particular rules are the following: there is 60s initial timeout, and then each bot is given 2s per turn. So, its ok, to have some long preliminary warmup and fast response is needed during the game itself.
