Error installing GR in Julia 1.6 RC2 (Windows x64)

I realize things will probably break in the transition from 1.5 to 1.6, but I didn’t see anyone reporting an issue like this on GitHub. So, I am just checking whether it is something specific to my case and if there is something I can do.

When trying installing GR this happens:

(@v1.6) pkg> add GR

The artifact in question, LibVPX is autogenerated and doesn’t have issue tracker. GR doesn’t have issue like this reported.

Even more puzzling is when I try to install a package, say Plots, I get the following output before it starts clonig packages:

I deleted $HOME/.julia folder and started from scratch in an attempt to clear (possibly corrupted) cache – to no avail.

Is there anything I can do other than sit and wait for the release?

Do you get the same issue with the latest version (1.6.0rc3)?

Things are moving fast, it’s rc3 already… Let me try.

Yes from what I understand the fast turnaround was in part due to package installation issues on windows, so this might be related

So far so good except for the dependency error:

  ✗ GR_jll
73 dependencies successfully precompiled in 64 seconds
1 dependency errored

Who knows what this error is about… But doing

using Plots

gr()
plot(sin, -\pi, \pi)

works.

A workaround is to precompile GR with Admin rights.

That worked. Thank you!
