Is this really the latest 0.5?

It appears that way. The latest release on GitHub is 0.5.0, dated 19.09.2016.

Yes. There hasn’t been a v0.5.x.

This i knew. But the version number with
0.5.1-pre+2
looked strange, so i wondered if i just had stopped to pull and compile at one point in time…

I’m not sure why it’s +2, but it’s the v0.5.1-pre because v0.5.1 hasn’t been released. I think @tkelman is managing that branch so he’d know more.
