Why is this Julia code considerably slower than Matlab

@RoyiAvital For 1 thread I get:

• Min: 3.3162
• Median: 3.3204
• Mean: 3.3284
• Max: 3.3925

whereas for 8 threads I get:

• Min: 1.4319
• Median: 1.4568
• Mean; 1.4599
• Max: 1.4910
