Is anybody aware of any ready-made console-based learning platform (in the form of a package perhaps?) for Julia similar to swirl ?

Yes! I think this is a very good idea! Swirl is very useful for getting acquainted with R. Usually, students respond positively when using it, since you don’t abandon the shell at all, while learning R.
Am not that experienced in Julia to be able to create such a tool, but if someone decides to make something similar for Julia, I would be happy to give feedback as to what could be more useful for students based on my experience with swirl.

Check out the Swirl.jl package on GitHub. It currently offers one course with a few lessons, and I hope the community will help it grow. You can use it right away from the REPL.
