Should BenchmarkTools.jl be a stdlib?

This entire thread shows that the thing that we need is

  • structure in our package eco system
  • hierarchical documentation for the package eco system

The julia documentation itself is not the best place for theses things. It needs to be a dedicated documentation just on the packages / functionality out there. This documentation needs to be hierarchical and first group the packages in less than something like 10-15 categories. The purpose would not be to cover the entire package ecosystem but just those things that are influential. I think we need something like this but the question is more how to setup it.

I agree, which is why I already have added a reference to it in the manual https://github.com/JuliaLang/julia/pull/27033.
