Series of Online Research Software Events SORSE 2nd September

You are invited to join us at the launch event of SORSE (a Series of Online Research Software Events) on Wednesday 2nd September 2020, 13:00 UTC . Registration can be found here .

With the cancellation of many research software events in 2020, the SORSE team have been working hard over the last couple of months to put together a series of online events to help you learn new skills, keep up to date with what is happening in the world of research software engineering and connect with the international research software community.

Over the coming weeks and months we’ll be hosting regular talks, software demos, panels and more but there is still time to get involved. SORSE has an open call for submissions of various session types including talks, poster sessions, software demos and mini workshops with monthly deadlines for review cycles. Our next submission deadline is 23:59 UTC on 31st August 2020 .

To kick our series off, we’re delighted to announce that the SORSE Launch Event will take place 13:00-15:00 UTC on Wednesday 2nd September . We’re pleased to be welcoming two keynote speakers at this event:

· Dr Mariann Hardey , Associate Professor, Durham University – talk title: ‘ Switching off the label “women in tech”

· Dr Kari Jordan , Executive Director, The Carpentries – talk title: ’Building Inclusive Computational Communities

The session will begin with a short welcome and introduction to SORSE followed by two 30 minute keynote talks. Dr Mariann Hardey will speak on the subject of women in tech and Dr Kari Jordan will speak about the Carpentries (both recorded). Further details and abstracts will be made available on the SORSE website soon. The talks will be followed by time for questions and then an opportunity for further discussion and networking in breakout rooms.

Joining instructions: The event will take place as a Zoom Webinar and will switch to a regular Zoom session for discussion and networking in breakout groups. Connection details will be sent to all registered participants in advance of the event.

Mailing list: A mailing list that will be used only for event updates and notifications is available. If you’d like to be notified of upcoming SORSE events, you can join the list here .

We hope that many of you will be able to join us for what we’re sure will be two interesting and insightful talks on 2nd September.
