In-place broadcasting does solve the v1.3.0 weirdness.

julia> @btime $ap2 .= $ap .+ $ap
  8.733 μs (47 allocations: 944 bytes)
([200.0], [8.0, 2.6], [2.0][2.0, 8.8][0.8, 4.0, 2.0, 90.0])
