Research Software Engineer at University of Edinburgh

1-year post for a research software engineer to join a research team in biomedical computation at the University of Edinburgh. Ideally, we are looking for candidates with proficiency in Julia, experience with backend and frontend development, and who can start asap.

You will work side-by-side a computational biologist to develop open research software for next-generation simulations of microbial cells in complex environments. The simulations will be used to predict population-wide phenomena from molecular specifications. Applications include the design of antibiotic treatments, synthetic microbial communities and dynamics in gut microbiota, so the software will be aimed at an interdisciplinary user-base in biomedicine and biotechnology.

There will be ample support by our multi-disciplinary research team with technical domain expertise, knowledge of intended users, and general scientific computing. Our team is co-located at the Schools of Informatics and Biological Sciences, giving us unique access to an incredibly broad pool of expertise and opportunities for career growth. Edinburgh as a city also has a lot to offer in terms of cultural and international life, beautiful scenery and outdoor activities. And if you are currently suffering from yet another heatwave, the weather here in Scotland might be just the right relief!

The full job description and application link can be found here, and interested candidates are encouraged to get in touch with a CV beforehand at andrea.weisse@ed.ac.uk.
