Installation of InteractiveDynamics

I tried to run ““add InteractiveDynamics”” and got this errors. Until now I didn’t have probelms adding packages, but I am quite confused by this output.

6 dependencies had output during precompilation:

1 dependency errored.
For a report of the errors see julia> err. To retry use pkg> precompile

Hi!

I think the WARNING you see means that some of the packages need to be updated. It looks like InteractiveDynamics.jl needs updating (last release February 2023). At present it loads versions of packages that require packages that have since been deprecated:

(@temp) pkg> why Formatting
  GLMakie → Makie → Formatting
  InteractiveDynamics → GraphMakie → Makie → Formatting
  InteractiveDynamics → Makie → Formatting
  InteractiveDynamics → OSMMakie → GraphMakie → Makie → Formatting
  InteractiveDynamics → OSMMakie → Makie → Formatting

(Looks like the Makie version loaded is old.)

I didn’t succeed in installing InteractiveDynamics on Julia 10.4 on MacOS. All the errors I see are different from the ones you see. :frowning: I added InteractiveDynamics to a new empty project, then I added these packages, following the Usage example provided:

julia-1.10> using DynamicalSystems, InteractiveDynamics, GLMakie

Errors were:

WARNING: could not import IntervalArithmetic.wideinterval into IntervalRootFinding
ERROR: LoadError: UndefVarError: `where_bisect` not defined
 ...
ERROR: LoadError: Failed to precompile ChaosTools
 ...
ERROR: Failed to precompile DynamicalSystems
 ...

So I think there are package incompatibilities somewhere, You should open an issue at InteractiveDynamics.jl on github.

(@temp) pkg> st
Status `~/.julia/environments/temp/Project.toml`
  [61744808] DynamicalSystems v3.3.17
⌃ [e9467ef8] GLMakie v0.8.12
  [ec714cd0] InteractiveDynamics v0.22.1

(You can enclose REPL output in triple backticks to add formatting.)

InteractiveDynamics.jl has not been in use since Julia 1.9 has been released. In Julia 1.9 DynamicalSystems.jl uses the package extensions for all plotting code.

This post made me realize that I need to deprecate InteractiveDynamics.jl and archive it on GitHub.
