Some of you have already noticed some strange posts going on — a handful of new discourse accounts have created new threads that are exact copies of old posts and other text we have laying around on this site (like category descriptions). This is a tactic to circumvent many of Discourse’s spam prevention techniques — like the fact that you need a few good posts before you can post many outgoing links. So far we’ve always caught them quickly, but apparently they’ll eventually edit their posts to contain spam links and/or gain trust levels so they can make new posts with spam.
Hopefully Discourse itself will eventually help us automatically identify and flag these posts preemptively, but until that happens please help us moderators nip this problem in the bud by flagging posts that seem suspicious to you. Thanks!
