HDF5 add/build fails on Windows 8 with Julia 0.6.0

This is happening with a clean initial installation. Two colleagues of mine have just encountered this problem and I have been able to replicate it as shown below. I’ve never opened an issue on github but will try to do do for HDF5. This also affects other packages such as JLD and JLD2 with HDF5 as a dependency.

This seems like a issue downloading the WinRPM catalog. The download site sometimes does fail, but that will effect many other people. I don’t have a windows machine myself to check, but are you sure you don’t have a proxy or firewall preventing the download? Can you download any other package with a binary dependency?

If it is a firewall issue, it is brand new. I do these updates routinely and this is the first time I’ve seen a problem. Other downloads do seem to be working but I’ll investigate further at this end.

Looks like https://github.com/JuliaPackaging/WinRPM.jl/issues/107 has resurfaced again!

This is definitely not a firewall problem. I get the same failure whether running at work (where it could be a firewall) and at home (definitely no firewall). In the link above, it looks as if the location of the required xml file for WinRPM had changed. Is it possible this has happened again or that there is a permissions problem in accessing the file location in cache.julialang.org?

Also is this a valid location (seems to be like two url’s concatenated)?

Now mysteriously as of this afternoon, the HDF5 build is working again and WinRPM.update() no longer fails. Our problem is clearly resolved but I have no idea what happened.

I think it was something like https://cache.julialang.org/http://download.opensuse.org updating, leading to the download errors.

I have the same problem again. I am using Windows 8.1 and Julia 0.6.2. Does somebody know how to fix this issue by now?
