I think one should distinguish between issues regarding the language only (e.g. current discussion around changing potentially offensive language in the Linux kernel and other projects) and those of surrounding communities and larger environment (How/who decides which packages are hosted in the “main” repository, how/who is administrating the community etc.). In addition, on a personal level ethical use means for me figuring out how to contribute to the community in a way that is beneficial to it.
