No, it uses “Turbo”, also a perceptual uniform colormap from Google. We are aware of that discussion and those other colormaps are also available in GMT.

It looks like Turbo makes different tradeoffs. It addresses colorblindness and banding but it isn’t perceptually uniform. Twitter thread.
