Allow package names in tags

  • I want to tag my questions with the name of the package I’m asking about
  • I want to follow the tags of some packages

Currently it is not possible to use the name of a package as a tag because

  • dots are not allowed, e.g. Pkg.jl
  • capitals are not allowed, e.g. Pkg.jl

I request that those be allowed, so I can tag with package names and follow those tags.

As far as I’m aware, we can’t currently change the set of allowed characters in a tag. Capital letters are allowed, but we use the default setting which only permits the creation of new tags that are all lowercase.

You could ask for allowing .s upstream at meta.discourse.org, but requests for other non-word characters have not seen much success.
