for a proper definition of ‘this’. I’m motivated to spend time and energy on visualization and plotting; my motivation to work on compiler modeling&implementation is a little bit lower and my interest in Plots.jl cooled down very early in the project - partially for the reasons Chris mentioned here, the architecture did solve some problems by creating others in shifting decisions from the implementor to the compiler (metaphorically).
This thread started out off topic and has evolved to become a kvetchfest about compile latency. This is not productive: everyone who works on the Julia compiler is well aware of compiler latency issues. I think this thread has run its course.
