Parallel FFT not that much faster

I wrote a short FFT benchmark script (see gist here) and ran it on the machine I was asking about above, “machine B”, as well as a different one where things seem better, “machine A”. Here’s a plot to summarize what I get:

So any ideas what’s going on with machine B, where I never even get a factor 2x improvement? Even Machine A I get 4x, but not 8x as perhaps expected?
