It’s alarming though. A first time poster getting flagged for posting a fact that continues a discussion that wasn’t flagged. I would be put off and probably leave (which I assume the poster did).

It was flagged as off-topic… and it was a response to an already off-topic digression; we typically move off-topic posts (like these) to a new thread, but this was also a bump of a very old thread.
I suppose a restructuring here makes sense, but it also feels funny to go breaking up an old thread like this.
I agree, this wasn’t the best way to welcome someone new to the board.

I’ve unflagged the posts, and split this discussion away from the thread. I don’t think I’ll bother messing with that old thread further unless it continues attracting new posts.
