As there are many experimentalists over here, I’m guessing there might be some people that are also into experimental music.
You may have heard about Angine de Poitrine? That’s a two-member experimental micro-tonal rock band from Chicoutimi, a small town in Canada where I also live. They are completely viral right now and I cannot be more proud of them, especially knowing that this is not general public music at all! They wear extravagant costumes and masks during their performance, claiming that they come from another planet, hence their identity is completely anonymous. We could summarize the genre as a mix between The White Stripes, Gentle Giant and Magma, with a huge amount of absurd and dadaist humor in it.
I am personally a fan since their beginning, but I still do not understand why it became so huge but still super happy for them. Check them out over here if you are curious, that’s the performance that made them internationally viral:
I personaly watch it/listen to it every day since I discovered it, and I hear something different every time. I was not expecting Angine de Poitrine to appear on this discourse, honestly… Cool though! Good community
That’s really what I like about bold compositional choices like this: the re-playability is incredibly high! And each time you discover new details and slowly understand the musicality of the disonnant sounds, that feels completely un-musical at first. That’s also why I’m so surprised on the sudden popularity, most people are not used to persist to discover the musicality of a piece.
And yeah this is very addictive, presumably because they are so funny and light-hearted.
The second album should be released in the following month or so!
Yes! I’m in favor of having more actually offtopic threads, like musical suggestion.
My personal message to everyone: feel free to share your new musical discovery here! For myself, I listen to literally everything, including stuff drastically different from above, like Taylor Swift and 2Pac .
It may seems to be completely unrelated to Julia, but I think it helps in making this community feels even more human. And music+coffee is my main fuel for entering into the flow when I code in Julia, so it is not that offtopic for me
