Jalal works on the coupled atmosphere/ocean dynamics of the Indian Ocean and tropical Pacific. His work is mainly focused on the application of machine learning and deep learning in tropical cyclone dynamics, drought, and climate extreme forecast. Other research interests include understanding the response of ocean-atmospheric teleconnections to cyclone, drought, and climate extreme.
