# Why is the backtick misfunctioning now?

I want to type:

```julia-auto
there is an `x` and an `y`

```

there is an `x`

there is an `x`and an`y

there is an `x and an y`.

Here’s what it looks like. I encounter it today.

Yeah, looks like Discourse just rolled out their new rich text editor. It’s configurable both as a site-wide and user preference… but they unilaterally set everyone’s default to rich text mode.

I just reset everyone’s pref back to the old Markdown editor. You can still choose to start in the rich text mode if you want — it’s now opt-in. I think that makes sense as a default for our community.

For what it’s worth, I had already reported this bug in the rich text mode a week ago.
