# Upcoming video call: Improving Base IO

Dear all,

The abstractions around IO in Base Julia could use some improvements. Therefore, we have organised a video call meeting to discuss what can be done about it. Anyone interested is welcome to join! I will post more details on exactly how to join the meeting later.

I have written an ambitious (some would say ‘unrealistic, pie in the sky’) proposal for a new IO interface in Base here, as an idealistic starting point: [IO interface in Julia - HackMD](https://hackmd.io/@jakobnissen/SksGljkfkl)

The meeting will take place Wednesday, December 4th at 10:00 Eastern Time (16:00 European Standard Time)
