# Switching from x86 Mac to Apple Silicon

Is there a procedure? Juliaup doesn’t seem to do it and I’m hesitant to run `juliaup self uninstall`; it looks like I might lose my current packages.

Well, if you switch from X86 to ARM you need to re-install all packages anyways. Just make sure to backup `.julia/environments/v1.11` and/or the other global environment(s) that you are using before uninstalling.

Thanks. I did the uninstall and reinstall, saving .julia first, and it seems to have worked.
