I’m putting this in off-topic since my question is more general. I want to learn more about the sci-ml type packages eventually but feel like I lack some fundamental knowledge on \*DEs and would therefore ask for recommendations on material to read about them (maybe a textbook or so). I have “seen” differential equations before during my masters but it was just an introduction. Any help is very much appreciated!

These are by far my fav lecture notes on DEs:

> **[notes03.pdf](https://math.mit.edu/~poonen/notes03.pdf)**
>
> 7.13 MB

They won him a teaching prize @ MIT.
Enjoy

Check out “Exploring ODEs” by Trefethen et al. It’s available free on his webpage.
Unfortunately it uses MATLAB.

Thank you! Maybe I can translate some models once I understand the packages better. 🙂

Zwillinger [1997] Handbook of Differential Equations, Academic Press, has a somewhat original approach.

For each technique covered, the author provides (quote):
• the types of equations to which the method is applicable
• the idea behind the method
• the procedure for carrying out the method
• at least one simple example of the method
• any cautions that should be exercised
• notes for more advanced users
• references to the literature for more discussion or more examples

I would highly recommend the Gil Strang lectures:

> **[Differential Equations and Linear Algebra | Learn Differential Equations: Up...](https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/res-18-009-learn-differential-equations-up-close-with-gilbert-strang-and-cleve-moler-fall-2015/pages/differential-equations-and-linear-algebra/)**
>
> In this collection of 55 videos, Professor Gilbert Strang explores differential equations and the math formulas behind them.

I definitely loved his lectures on linear algebra. He is an amazing teacher. Thanks!
