Some people are having trouble installing Rsvg.jl on Windows ([Luxor doesn't compile on julia v1.11.5 · Issue #332 · JuliaGraphics/Luxor.jl · GitHub](https://github.com/JuliaGraphics/Luxor.jl/issues/332)). Can anyone with Windows (and a few spare minutes) install Rsvg.jl (or Luxor.jl) successfully?

This was fixed in [[Librsvg] Update to 2.54.7 and add missing XML2 dep by nhz2 · Pull Request #11544 · JuliaPackaging/Yggdrasil · GitHub](https://github.com/JuliaPackaging/Yggdrasil/pull/11544)

You need to make sure that the latest version of Librsvg\_jll is being used.

Does Rsvg.jl need to be updated (released)?

I don’t think so. I think the registry could be edited to somehow prevent this.

The underlying issue is that Librsvg\_jll is compiled with libxml2 2.13 but the latest version of libxml2 is 2.14, and 2.14 has a different API and ABI.
So eventually all the jll packages using libxml2 need to be rebuild or updated.

Thanks for the explanation!

I’m not clear how people can fix their problems, but at least they know why things aren’t working. 😀

Shouldn’t something be fixed in the registry to make this work without human intervention?

I made [Fix Librsvg\_jll compat by nhz2 · Pull Request #135821 · JuliaRegistries/General · GitHub](https://github.com/JuliaRegistries/General/pull/135821) which adds the XML2\_jll dep to the “Deps.toml” file. Does editing “Deps.toml” like this break the registry, and in this case, should the previous versions of “Librsvg\_jll” be yanked instead?

I am not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I still get errors using Librsvg\_jll v2.54.7+0.

It doesn’t seem like the jll has all the files needed.

You can do something like:

```julia-repl
julia> rsvg = Librsvg_jll.rsvg_convert()
julia> `$rsvg -v` |> run
```

and the error will pop up

Interesting.

I ran through terminal and it works. However, vscode terminal produces the error. So that fixes first issue.

The main issue is, I am calling rsvg-convert from quarto, another prgram. I add the rsvg-convert path to the quarto\_jll and I get the same errors.

You can reproduce this by just double clicking the rsvg-convert.exe file in the artifacts directory.

To find it you can do:

```julia-repl
julia> Librsvg_jll.artifact_dir
```

Can you reproduce the error now?

Yes, directly running the .exe without the correct environment gives the same errors you had:

```julia-auto
run(`'C:\Users\nzimm\.julia\artifacts\07845fab6c42b158ceb0e2304c38abe3d9376fa7\bin\rsvg-convert.exe' -v`)
```

Can you please share the output of the following in quarto or vscode?

```julia-auto
 using InteractiveUtils, Pkg; versioninfo(); Pkg.status(PKGMODE_MANIFEST)
```

I wonder if quarto is adding something to the env.

I also tried adding all the path from rsvg to quarto environment with no luck:

```julia
function test_report()
    path = projectdir("notebooks", "aisc.qmd")
    rsvg = Librsvg_jll.rsvg_convert()
    env_path = rsvg.env[3]
    quarto = addenv(quarto_jll.quarto(), "PATH" => env_path)
    run(`$quarto render $path --to hdr-pdf`)
    return nothing
end
```

Hmm, very strange. For what it’s worth I was never able to get recent versions of quarto to work on Windows, and always end up running it with wsl2 or linux.

Do older versions of Librsvg\_jll work?

I had only requested authorization for the current Librsvg\_jll on my work computer so not sure about older versions.

I was able to get quarto\_jll to work for everything else. The trick is to set read/write privileges for the artifacts folder. Windows must set it to readonly by default
