Hi folks! 👋

Your friendly Julia GSoC Co-Admin here! Wanted to share my own update about this year’s GSoC Mentor Summit. This year, @avik, @mortenpi, and I went to Google HQ in Mountain View to meet other GSoC project admins and maintainers. It was an absolutely great experience! 🤯

We were able to meet a ton of awesome folks from various organizations (geeked out with some of my personal open source heroes, Jan Flowers from [OpenMRS](https://openmrs.org) and Alya Abbott from [Zulip](http://zulip.com/)), I led a [talk about research software engineering](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fmKEmA8iKCO4QuSWto8rHiCKCuNm7nLUIxW2jPWINws/edit?usp=sharing) that was attended by 20 - 30 folks, and even did an [informal hackathon on the new small binary feature](https://discourse.julialang.org/t/pushing-the-limits-of-small-binary-creation/120989) added into Julia! Overall, it was a fantastic experience and I know that @avik and I are thinking about ways we can turn our experiences from the Summit into action for the greater community! :juliaheartpulsing:

As this year’s GSoC is wrapping up, I wanted to give a quick advertisement that @avik and I are still looking for volunteers to help with GSoC admin next year! If you love volunteering, are looking for low-tech ways to help around the Julia community, or want to give back within STEM, this can be a great low time commitment but high impact role! Feel free to reach out to @avik and I about volunteering 😄

Cheers!
