Is there any concrete performance gain from building Julia from source locally? If yes, does anyone have ballparks for expected speedup and tips for navigating Julia’s `Make.inc` with performance-oriented options?

I have noticed building from source automatically sets `MARCH` to `native`, which should provide a speedup compared to juliaup’s installation.

The speedup is very minor because Julia already multi versions (e.g. x86 has levels for generic, nehalem, haswell, and Skylake iirc). Also, Julia will JIT code based on your specific CPU, so anything we lose is only lost for methods in the sysimage

Also, we may start PGO’ing the official builds soon, which is annoying to do locally, so the official builds may end up faster.
