I just came across [this pattern of overloading `Makielayout.get_ticks()` for a custom axis](https://discourse.julialang.org/t/zooming-and-date-axes-in-makie/80790/11) . Such an elegant example of use of Julia’s multiple dispatch for visualization of a bespoke axis type! The automatic support of the axis rescaling (without getting into the weeds of events management) is simply beautiful. Definitely worthy to be included in the [Beautiful Makie](https://beautiful.makie.org/dev/) gallery.

And yet, as far as I am aware, this pattern is completely undocumented. (If not for [the above post](https://discourse.julialang.org/t/zooming-and-date-axes-in-makie/80790) I’d be still unaware of it).

Hence this call: if experts and power users could share here their favourite hidden Makie gems, I believe, it would be greatly appreciated by the wider community.

Thanks!
