# Julia v1.9.0-rc1 is now available

The Julia developers are pleased to announce that v1.9.0-rc1, the first release candidate for the upcoming 1.9 stable series, is now available. Binaries are available for download at [https://julialang.org/downloads](https://julialang.org/downloads) in the “upcoming release” section.

As a prerelease version, 1.9.0-rc1 should **not** be considered production-ready. Rather, it’s intended to give users, especially package developers, a chance to try out their code with 1.9.0 prior to a full release. Check out the [NEWS file](https://github.com/JuliaLang/julia/blob/v1.9.0-rc1/NEWS.md) to see what will be new in 1.9.0.

Note that `1.9` on [Travis](https://docs.travis-ci.com/user/languages/julia/), [AppVeyor](https://github.com/JuliaCI/Appveyor.jl), and [Cirrus](https://github.com/ararslan/CirrusCI.jl) now refers to 1.9.0-rc1. On [GitHub Actions](https://github.com/julia-actions/setup-julia), use `~1.9.0-0`.
