# Julia v1.13.0-alpha2 is now available

Julia version 1.13.0-alpha2, the first alpha pre-release in the upcoming 1.13 series of releases, is now available. Check out the [NEWS.md](https://github.com/JuliaLang/julia/blob/v1.13.0-alpha1/NEWS.md) file to see what will be new in 1.13. Binaries are available via [JuliaUp](https://github.com/JuliaLang/juliaup) and in the upcoming release section of [https://julialang.org/manual-downloads/](https://julialang.org/manual-downloads/) for macOS (Intel and M-series processors), Windows (x86 and x86-64), glibc Linux (x86, x86-64, AArch64), and FreeBSD (x86-64).

As an alpha version, 1.13.0-alpha2 should **not** be considered production-ready. Rather, it’s intended to give users, especially package developers, a chance to try out their code with 1.13.0 prior to a full release.

Note that `1.13` on [Cirrus](https://github.com/ararslan/CirrusCI.jl), [Travis](https://docs.travis-ci.com/user/languages/julia/), and [AppVeyor](https://github.com/JuliaCI/Appveyor.jl) now refers to 1.13.0-alpha2. On [GitHub Actions](https://github.com/julia-actions/setup-julia), use `~1.13.0-0` or similar (see the `setup-julia` action’s README for options).

In case you’re wondering why the first pre-release for 1.13.0 is alpha2 rather than alpha1, that’s because Julia is moving to [2-based indexing](https://github.com/simonster/TwoBasedIndexing.jl) in 1.13. (Not actually—there is a 1.13.0-alpha1 git tag, we just opted not to make a full pre-release from it.)
