# Installing packages from github runs forever on Windows, is it possible to change the source to pkg.julialang?

I have been having a hard time intalling packages from my Windows 10 laptop. The install process is not really reliable. I have turned off the windows defender firewall and the installation still stuck.

I read somewhere you can change the install source to “pkg.juliaang…” instead of Github, but don’t know how. My Julia version is 1.6.1

Removing and adding back the General Registry should do the trick:

```julia
pkg> registry rm General
pkg> registry add General

```
