# Error using TestItems in VSCode

I get this error when I try to run tests using the TestItems framework in VSCode:

```julia
An error occurred attempting to run tests: Error: Pending response rejected since connection got disposed

```

The test runs fine from the VSCode REPL in package mode.

Another person got the same [error](https://discourse.julialang.org/t/testitems-produces-error-in-vscode/118591) but the issue wasn’t resolved in that thread.

Does anybody know what causes this error and how to fix it?

What version of the extension are you on? I think I fixed something related to that recently…

Any progress on this? The test extension is so useful I’d hate to have to stop using it.

I’ve just pushed a new build out to the insider channel that has some more diagnostics to get to the bottom of this.

Could you switch over to the insider channel, and then just run the extension? I think in theory if it crashes it should then automatically send a crash report, or you could copy/paste the log here. Thanks!

I switched to the pre-release version, I assume that is what you mean by the insider channel, and ran the tests again. Got the same error message and the extension crashed and sent a log report.

If you don’t get the log I’ll be happy to cut and paste it but I don’t know where it is saved on my local machine.

After switching to the pre-release version, I also encountered the same error, but I am not sure whether an error log was sent. I included in below in case it was not sent.

Ok, first, thanks to everyone who tried the new build and send bug reports. I think I now fixed the bug. I just pushed build v1.126 to the pre-release channel, maybe those folks that were able to replicate this problem could try that build and report back whether the bug is now gone?

I still get the same error after updating to 1.126.1.

The language server crashed and sent an error log. If the transmitted log is not getting through (and if you tell me where the log is stored locally) I can cut and paste it here, .

@brianguenter could you actually post the log here? I am seeing only one crash report from the LS in our online telemetry data, and I’m not sure whether that is you or not 😉 The error there looks unrelated, so I’m wondering.

Sure. Where is the log stored on a Windows machine? I’ve looked in the obvious places but not found it.

In VS Code, run the command `View: Toggle Output`, then select the output channel in the drop down and copy paste the content. The output channel we are interested in is `Julia Language Server`.

Yes. But there is no error recorded there… Did you take that after the error showed up?

I did take the log after the error. Nothing showed up in the language server output.

But, something did show up in the test server output: a message about unsatisfiable requirements for packages. Which is odd because my package compiles and runs fine at the VSCode REPL. Also this is not the error reported in the VSCode REPL which is still the same:

The tests also execute fine when I run `test` in the VSCode REPL in package mode. No problem with unsatisfiable package versions.

@brianguenter So what is happening in your case is different. I you look at the log, it has this info:

```julia
Info: This test server instance was started with the following configuration.
project_path = "" 
package_path = "c:\\Users\\seatt\\source\\GaussianBeam"
package_name = "GaussianBeam"

```

The key thing is that it looks like you _don’t_ have an active project in your VS Code session. In that case, the test runner will create a temporary empty project, `pkg> dev` your package into it and then try to resolve. But your package has a dependency that is not registered in the registry, correct? So the resolve step fails.

The solution is to make sure your VS Code session has an active project, and that the package where the test is in is actually deved into that project.

Hmm. How do I make sure my VSCode session has an active project?

And this is a snapshot of the package manager mode executing in the VSCode REPL.

The `GaussianBeam` package is the activated package, according to the package manager.

Do I have to do something else to get VSCode to think this is the active project? I’ve never had to explicitly had to worry about this before so I must have accidentally configured something strangely for this project.
