What are you ultimately trying to do?

This seems like a [classic XY problem](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XY_problem), where you are [reaching for metaprogramming](https://discourse.julialang.org/t/how-to-warn-new-users-away-from-metaprogramming/35022) when you should be using higher-order functions or similar.
