FWIW, I think **it would be timely for the main AxisArray-like-package devs to re-address the state of the ecosystem**.

This could be done, IMHO:

- by directly digging up and updating the [_The fate of DimensionalArrays / AxisArrays in Julia, and which to actually use_](https://discourse.julialang.org/t/the-fate-of-dimensionalarrays-axisarrays-in-julia-and-which-to-actually-use/33253) discussion,
- by writing up a short blog entry that could serve as a reference,
- or maybe by having a little write-up in the docs of [AxisArrayConversion.jl](https://github.com/jw3126/AxisArrayConversion.jl).

To give context to this comment, I recently tried to answer a [related question on StackOverflow](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/66251867/operate-on-julia-ranges-to-go-from-physical-units-to-array-indices/66252188?noredirect=1#comment117162602_66252188) and edited my answer to include a [DimensionalData.jl](https://github.com/rafaqz/DimensionalData.jl) example solution, but I’m definitely not the expert here and I found it hard to _chose_ DimensionalData.jl. Importantly, I’d like to cite a comment from the SO question author to drive the point (emphasis mine):

> DimensionalData is nice, but at the moment it seems to me that there are many competing packages trying to reproduce what xarray does [_ **so I’m not sure if I want to commit to one of those packages just yet** _](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/66251867/operate-on-julia-ranges-to-go-from-physical-units-to-array-indices/66252188?noredirect=1#comment117162586_66252188)

In other words, this testimony suggests that the current fragmentation is hurting the userbase and is probably reducing important feedback. Having a welcoming place to guide new users and help them chose a package would be most welcome.
