I just got around to the JuliaHub newletter for the last week, and learnt that:

> Alan Edelman, JuliaHub Co-Founder, Julia Co-Creator and Principal Investigator of the JuliaLab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has been [recognized](https://news.mit.edu/2025/mit-affiliates-named-aaas-fellows-0327?utm_campaign=Newsletter&utm_medium=email&_hsmi=355227036&utm_content=355227036&utm_source=hs_email) as a 2024 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)

MIT Press mentions his part in the development of Julia in particular as a reason for the recognition:

> [Alan Edelman](https://math.mit.edu/directory/profile.html?pid=63) PhD ’89 is an applied mathematics professor for the Department of Mathematics and leads the Applied Computing Group of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the [MIT Julia Lab](https://julia.mit.edu/). He is recognized as a 2024 AAAS fellow for distinguished contributions and outstanding breakthroughs in high-performance computing, linear algebra, random matrix theory, computational science, and in particular for the development of the Julia programming language. Edelman has been elected a fellow of five different societies — AMS, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, the Association for Computing Machinery, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and AAAS.
