# \[ANN\] DocumenterCitations 1.5.0

[DocumenterCitations.jl](https://github.com/JuliaDocs/DocumenterCitations.jl) has been released in version v1.5.0. See the [Release Notes](https://github.com/JuliaDocs/DocumenterCitations.jl/blob/master/NEWS.md#version-150---2026-08-19).

This is the first feature release in almost exactly a year, and includes some features that have long been on the wishlist, and that Claude Code now made feasible to tackle. The two main user-facing ones are “Hover” (showing the full bibliography entry when you hover over the citation), and backlinks (links from the bibliography back to every location where the entry is cited). Both are demonstrated in this screenshot:

As a less-user-facing feature, `DocumenterCitations` now bundles and injects the CSS code that is required for the bibliography to render properly. Thanks to @fredrikekre and [DocumenerCodeBlocks](https://discourse.julialang.org/t/documentercodeblocks-jl-announcement/138552), which recently demonstrated how Documenter plugins can achieve this!

If you previously skipped the instructions to set up a `citations.css` file for your project, then this release will magically fix your broken bibliography. If you _are_ using a `citations.css` file, you should delete it after upgrading to `DocumenterCitations v1.5.0` (delete the file and remove it from the `assets` list in `makedocs`). Nothing bad will happen if you don’t, but it’s redundant, and very hypothetically, if future versions of `DocumenerCitations` were ever to update the CSS, it’s theoretically possible that your stale file will somehow interact badly with the built-in CSS (and this may be hard to debug). If you’re deliberately using a _custom_ CSS file, it will override the built-in CSS, but if you want to be sure, you can disable the built-in CSS by instantiating the plugin with `insert_css = false`. Thank you, you and @fredrikekre made my day as I’m currently improving the documentation of my package. I love the `citet` option.
